A new South–South mentoring initiative was launched in March 2025 to support female PhD students in STEM from Africa. In cooperation with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST/WiSTEM), LAFMAAL launched a program which connects African PhD female students with senior female researchers affiliated with universities in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana to strengthen academic collaboration and mentorship opportunities for emerging women scientists.
A total of 41 participants participated the first initiative, which was the first phase of the mentoring iteration including 7 mentors and 12 mentees from LAFMAAL, as well as 12 mentors and 10 mentees from WiStem. This year’s second iteration started with an online kick-off event on March 30, 2026. A total of 30 participants is registered for the second mentoring iteration: 9 mentors and 8 mentees from KNUST/WiStem and 5 mentors and 8 mentees from LAFMAAL.
